Partnership Between CDCR and CCHCS
California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) is a State of California agency who, in partnership with our sister agency, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), provides comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health care to adult patients within all state-owned and-operated prisons throughout California.
Since our institutions are state-owned and -operated, we don’t utilize private prison companies – either for facility or staffing management. This means mental health clinicians who practice with us are State of California employees with all the great benefits that come with it.
Mental Health Program's Mission/Overview
The Statewide Mental Health Program is committed to delivering high‑quality, ethical, and evidence‑based mental health care that meets or exceeds national standards. We serve individuals entrusted to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with compassion, professionalism, and respect—always striving to promote dignity, accountability, and health equity.
Our program is built on a foundation of integrity, transparency, and continuous improvement. Through rigorous self‑governance, ongoing evaluation, and system‑wide communication, we ensure our services are effective, well‑coordinated, and responsive to the needs of our patients.
We are proud of our dedicated clinicians. They are skilled, well-trained, and deeply compassionate professionals who provide timely, humane, and patient‑centered care.
Together, we aim to support successful reintegration and reduce recidivism by promoting continuity of care and preparing individuals for healthier futures within their communities.
